The Ask

Identify one collection from a specific designer or brand. From there, explain what the collection intends to express.

The Process

The process began with answering questions that give a better understanding of analyzing a fashion collection.

  • What is the historical reference of the brand?

  • How does the designer reflect the zeitgeist of the era?

  • How does the designer identify their philosophy or influences of the collection?

  • What are the aesthetics of the garments in the collection? How do they show cultural influences or significant themes?

The Research

My exploration of this collection began with an in-depth examination of it’s originating source, Versace. A thorough review of their website allowed for comprehensive insights into the showcased runway looks of the fashion show. Direct engagement with the platform gave me a more nuanced understanding of the conceptual undertones of the Fall/Winter 2021 Ready-to-wear collection. Subsequently, I pulled additional resources to give me a overall perspective on Donatella Versace’s artistic vision for this particular ensemble. Delving further into my research, I gained understanding of the intention and ideas encapsulated in “La Greca.”

The Outcome

This project resulted in a written report on the Fall/Winter 2021 Ready-to-wear collection from Versace known as “La Greca.” Analyzing this collection allowed me to have a better understanding of how Versace honed in on what the future of fashion looked like by elevating simple looks into elegant pieces with ease.
