The 1920’s File

The Ask:

To analyze and show trends, styles, and silhouettes from past decades. From the Victorian Era to the 1920’s.

The Research

The project began with thorough research on each decade, primarily relying on our textbook as the primary source. We delved into not just the prominent fashion trends but also the broader global events shaping each era. The process involved brainstorming and outlining chosen garments for every decade and category. I organized this information by creating a Google Doc that detailed key events that happened in each era and outlined three distinct garments for each category.

The Process

Finding Images:

The next step in this process of creating this project was finding imagery that represented the garments and silhouettes highlighted in each decade. The objective was to find the best images so that the information could be relayed better to the reader. I aimed to ensure diversity among my image selection by avoiding reliance on a single source. I sourced images from a variety of places including pinterest, google photos, sketches from the time period, and depictions of the garments on mannequins.

The Outcome

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this project because it allowed me to represent how trends and styles have changed throughout different eras, thus showing the evolving styles seen through imagery and descriptions. I acquired the skill of examining various fashion trends and identifying common patterns and connections among them. This project also helped me better learn how to design slide decks better for future projects.
